Models named by CPSC
The notice lists NOTIFIER FWSG, Fire-Lite W-GATE, Gamewell-FCI VW-GATE, Honeywell XLS-WSG, and Johnson Controls JFWSG, with affected date codes from October 13, 2014 through December 15, 2016.
Known issue
CPSC says smoke detectors connected through an affected gateway could fail to activate properly when significant environmental contaminants were present.
Remedy
The published remedy was to contact Honeywell for a firmware update to the affected SWIFT wireless gateway. Verify the gateway model, date code, and current firmware before determining whether a system remains affected.
How to identify an affected gateway
Record the gateway brand and exact model, then compare the date code with the range listed in the CPSC notice. Because the same SWIFT platform was sold under several fire alarm brands, the front label may differ even when the underlying gateway is part of the affected product family.
What to document
- Gateway model, brand, date code, and current firmware revision if available.
- Panel/node and wireless mesh location served by the gateway.
- Wireless detectors/modules associated with the gateway.
- Environmental conditions or contamination concerns noted at the site.
- Firmware remedy performed and post-update test results.
After the firmware remedy
Follow the manufacturer's update procedure and then verify gateway communication, wireless device supervision, alarm operation, trouble reporting, and restoration. A firmware update should be treated as system work that requires documented testing, not merely as a software change with no field verification.
Identify the exact model, firmware, and date information before deciding the equipment is affected. Document what you find and follow the official source and your company's approved impairment/replacement process.
